YOU COULD JOIN OUR WONDERFUL STAFF!
At Bayside the staff is chosen by the STUDENTS. You may call the director, send her a resume
or letter by USPS, email or fax (454-9516) to introduce yourself, but she has chosen to be
powerless until the kids give her the "thumbs up". However, we will give you a hint about how to
get that approval.
HERE'S WHAT TO DO if you want to TEACH
1. We recommend that you come in and visit with the students on a voluntary, unpaid basis.
(Think of it as your job interview.) Find out what they want and/or need to learn which may
match one of your areas of expertise. We start school the second Thursday of September
each year. Get in as early as you can.
2. After spending as many hours/days as it may take for you to find out what you can offer and
whether you can relate with the students and staff and ENJOY the environment, offer one or
two demonstration classes/workshops/meetings(individual or group)/sessions/workouts of
one hour each. The lesson plan, format, materials and venue are your choice (based on your
interactions with the students up to that point). The time of these sessions must be arranged
with the director (we are good at accommodating schedules).
3. When you feel that you have developed a following among the students, let the director know.
She will ask for approval of your work plan at the next morning meeting with the
students (these are daily at 9:00 am); your attendance at this meeting is optional.
4. Fill out the staff paperwork and give it to the director. You'll then be hired on an hourly
basis for 2 to 30 hours per week, either as a contractor, receiving a 1099 (if you have your
own worker's compensation insurance) or on payroll with withholding. Contractors negotiate
their own compensation. The current rate of pay on payroll is $20/hour with paid breaks of
10 minutes every two hours, a paid lunch of up to one hour on days you work from 9:00 to
3:00, and payday on the fifth of each month. There is no tenure to be earned.
HERE'S WHAT TO DO if you want to HELP
1. Whether you are hired to teach classes or not, you can also help students and/or staff on
an hourly basis as an aide, supervisor, library clerk, computer tech, secretary and/or by
cleaning up. There may even be something you can do for us that we have not
considered! So come in and visit on an unpaid voluntary basis and develop a work
plan to present to the director.
2. Work on a voluntary basis according to your plan for at least 2 hours (think of it as
your interview).
3. Let the director know when you have done this trial run. She will consult with students
and other staff members for approval of your services and plan, and let you know,
usually by 9:30 the following day, whether you are hired.
4. Fill out the staff paperwork and finalize your schedule with the director. You can be
hired for from 2 to 35 hours per week. Contractors negotiate their own compensation
and schedule and receive a 1099. Staff at this level receive $10/hour on payroll with
withholding, 10 minute paid breaks every two hours and up to an hour paid lunch on
days when they work from 8:30 or 9:00 to 3:00 or 3:30. Payday is on the fifth of each
month for the previous month worked.
USE YOUR IMAGINATION! CREATE YOUR JOB!
Special challenge:
The director is looking for someone with a keen understanding of the vision behind this
school to take over parts of her job. So create yourself an administrative position if you
have the courage!
