On
December 17, 1974 an artist was born.
Music, dancing and caring people were David’s
earliest influences. As a child, his family
moved often, but David enjoyed the journey
that ultimately formed his adaptable character.
His father told him, “Don’t
worry about your grades, you’re a
great human being, Dave.” The loving
support of his family freed David to explore
his creativity and relish in the individuality
of each person he met along the way. Laughing,
running, poetry, and art were his outlets
and inspirations.
After graduating high school, David joined
the U.S. Marine Corp and was stationed in
Hawaii for three years as a heavy equipment
operator. Leadership, responsibility, fortitude
and perseverance were cultivated throughout
his duty and travels as a Marine. A more
focused and determined man emerged to balance
the artist within.
David honed his entrepreneurial skills while
in business with his father in North Carolina.
Homesick for California,
David relocated to the Bay Area where he
continued to develop his art and poetry.
It was while chauffeuring diverse clientele
to the airport that he discovered philosophy,
a key influence in his designs. He met the
love of his life, Lisa Miller in Santa Cruz,
CA. They were married in a candle-lit ceremony
in November 2000. Her love and encouragement
continue to inspire his artistry.

David Robert Vercauteren was creating abstract
designs prolifically when he began working
with a local screen-printer. Through him,
David was introduced to the apparel industry;
he attended tradeshows, and learned the
fine points of the business.
It was then, with business, art, and apparel
on his mind that came the epiphany; how
to synchronize art with fashion as a business,
while maintaining his integrity as a free-thinker
and adventurer. And so was born the label,
DRV. Since initials cannot be trademarked,
David created his logo. The dot represents
design.
The
belts, buckles, and packaging are 100% U.S.
made. The belt buckles are wearable, lasting
and unique art. Cast in semi-precious pewter,
they are the legacy that David will leave
behind.
