IMPORTANCE OF HANDWORK

Where to obtain materials
Many of you who enjoy doing crafts at home will find that you have most of the tools and materials that are required to make these toys.

Almost any material needed for these kits is available at your local fabric or craft store.

Of the materials that might be a bit harder to locate, such as:

  • the very light weight silk (5-3 mummy weight) for Lucy’s Angels & Toute Petite
  • cotton velour (white, grey or brown) for Chocolate Bunny & Pussy Willow
  • ball bearings for Pebble the Gnome & Tommy Tomten Kit’n’Tales tries to provide you with alternatives, or offers them to you to purchase.

One place that has been a wonderful resource for materials is our local second hand store. There I have found inexpensive garments of cotton velour in white and other colors that would dye into the desired colors. I have also found lovely silk scarves that make sweet fairy's, angel’s and wings for both, as well as for the honey bee.

The ball bearing could easily be replaced by a steely marble. Only, it seems that those are not available anymore. If you know of a source, kindly contact me so I can let others know. If you live in a city, it is likely that there is a bearing store in town where you can purchase _” metal ball bearings.

If you are unable to do that, you can experiment with marbles or round stones. However, I have found that glass marbles are not heavy enough to make the gnomes tumble in a satisfactory manner.
