search engine optimization involves the process of optimizing your website so that the search engines will rank your website higher and get more traffic. If you are searching for free SEO tools to help you earn money from home with your website, read on.
search engine optimization can be a complicated process and it can take a long time before you can see results. In a nutshell, getting backlinks, optimizing your meta tags, adding keywords to your meta description and adding specific keywords to your anchor text are some features of SEO. It can be daunting task for most people who've just started out on their website to learn all the details of SEO. Fortunately, there are various tools to help you.
Below are a list of free tools that can help you with your SEO needs:
Tool 1: Google Keywords
Google Keywords is the one of the most important tool to help you decide what keyword you want to optimize for your website. Certain keywords have a huge number of monthly or daily searches while others don't. Google keywords help you to identify similar keyword phrases or long tail keywords that have less competition from the rest. Generally long tail keywords have less competition and you are more likely to get top rankings for long tail keywords then short phrases.
Example 1
An example is "lose weight fast" has a global monthly search volume of 1,000,000, compared to
"how to lose weight fast and easy" has a global monthly search volume of 6,600.
If you were to optimize your website for "how to lose weight fast and easy" you will most likely get higher rankings for your website then if you choose to optimize for "lose weight fast", but the problem is you might not get the traffic you need for your website.
Example 2
"how to lose weight fast and easy" has a global monthly search volume of 6,600.
"ways to lose weight fast" has a global monthly search volume of 40,500.
In this example, if you choose to optimize for "ways to lose weight fast", you will most certainly get more traffic and although there is more competition over time with the correct SEO techniques there is a much higher chance of getting into the first page of Google then optimizing for "lose weight fast".
There are many other ways Google Keywords can help you, but this is one example that I can explain here. The bottom-line is that it is a very useful tool and all website owners must use it if they want to get better rankings.
Tool 2: Google Analytics
Google Analytics is another very useful tool, designed and specifically made to gather information about your visitors. You might wonder why this information is so important when traffic is all you need. Basically it helps identify:
Who are you visitors, i.e which countrymap overlay of individual states
Where your visitors come from, i.e direct linking, search engine, affiliate link..
How did they find you
How long did they spend on your website
Which site did they spend the most time with
This tool can also help you identify which content generates the most interest which can mean more sales or more leads. Webmasters will tend to improve content or tweak that specific site further and use this information to improve individual websites for your business.
All you need to do is insert a specific code to your website as per instructions on Google Analytics and once verified your Google Analytics account will be up and running.
Tool 3: Sitemap Generation Tool
Sitemaps are codes that contain links to all pages on your websites. They are usually placed on the root directory of your website.
There are many sitemap generation tools out there. But the most reliable free program that will help you to generate your sitemap is XML-Sitemaps.
This website generates your sitemaps for you. All you have to do is provide your very own domain or website address and it will do it automatically. Depending on how large your website is, the time it takes to generate your sitemap varies between less than a minute to 10 minutes.
You might ask why are sitemaps so important?
Sitemaps tell search engines how many internal sites you have so it saves them time to find each individual web page, which increases chances of getting them indexed. What you basically want is to get every webpage into their index and getting greater visibility when someone searches for your website.
Tool 4: Social Bookmarking Tool
Everyone knows that social bookmarking is the next big thing on the internet. Yes, social bookmarking contributes to a certain extend towards SEO but not a whole lot. Submitting your website to major social websites will help boost your rankings. Sites such as Twitter, Facebook, Digg, Techorati, Mister-Wong, Propellor, SlashDot, Mixx etc have high PR and submitting your websites to High PR sites can help boost your rankings although this issue is contentious with other internet marketers out there.
There is also an option to select only "DoFollow" Links which are websites that allow backlinks to their website. These "DoFollow" links are much better and because they allow reciprocal links which benefit your website more.
But still value the use of social bookmarking for your website. Here is the link to get mass submission to all these websites.
SocialMarker
SocialMarker is a website that helps you sign up to 50 social websites. The website claims that this can be done within 15 minutes although I do think that it is unlikely to do all that within 15 minutes. You still need to sign up to each of the websites which is time consuming although this service makes it faster..
This service is FREE
Tool 5: Website Grader
Website grader is a free service that grades your website for
Content
Conversion
SEO optimization
Promotion
Traffic Rank
It gives a score out of 100 and you also have the option of comparing with any competitor's website. It gives quite a good summary of your website and mails it to your email (also an option) on how to improve it.
Under promotion it also gives a grade for your twitter account. Optimization analysis is pretty good as it goes in depth into "alt tags", inbound links, page title, H1 analysis, keyword and meta data. I personally think that some areas such as promotion could be a little more in depth but what do you expect out of a free tool. Overall, still a great tool to use for your website.
Tool 6: Link Popularity
Link popularity is one of the tools provided together with other SEO tools available on its parent website SEOcentro. Again there are many websites that can provide a free service to rank your link but this is what I use normally.
If you were to visit the link popularity tool website you can add your website link as well as your competitor's link. Once you submit the link after entering the security code it will generate the number of combined links from all search engines into one.
If you were to enter your competitor's website link you can also compare between the number of links your competitor has vs your website. Of course this does not give you any idea what keywords they are competing against but it just give you some information about the number of links indexed on the internet.
The list above is not exhaustive. It will be updated in my future articles as well. But the ones listed above are sure to help you if you feel that you do not want to spend on SEO services.
To Your Success,
Bryan Wong YH
